Australia needs population growth

Towns need population to support businesses and hence provide jobs. Larger population, or rather higher population density, results in more efficient use of resources and infrastructure.

Electricity carried through kilometres after kilometres of nothingness wastes enormous of useful energy / power, stretches of highways with barren landscape and not populated cost millions to maintain, country hospitals with 4 or 5 beds but serviced by 30 staff are in no way economical to operate, etc.

Australia needs humans to connect the towns and cities, a lot more than the NBN.
